A complete performance of Housman’s A Shropshire Lad with James Rutherford’s own choices from the host of settings which have been made of many of the poems, interspersed with readings of those poems for which no settings exist.
Composers featured will include Bax, Moeran, Ireland and Orr. This will be enhanced by the projection of photographs by Gareth Thomas, originally produced for an illustrated edition of the poems.
James Rutherford is now an internationally recognised opera star, and plays Hans Sachs in Die Meistersinger for Vienna State Opera the week after this recital. Simon Lepper is well known to audiences at both Bromsgrove and Tardebigge.
