Originally formed by students from Paris and Lyon Conservatoires, Quatuor Diotima have built a big international reputation largely on their performances of living composers, so their interpretation of Steve Reich’s masterpiece should be fascinating. However they have also been heavily involved in the rediscovery of the music of the prolific George Onslow, known in his lifetime (1784-1853) as the ‘French Beethoven’ and composer of well over 50 string chamber music works. Quatuor Diotima have recorded 3 of his quartets for the Naïve label and include one of those for us.
