Returning to us after their concert in February 2019, the Lawson Trio bring us another of their themed concerts – this one is subtitled ‘Prayers and Nocturnes. Incidentally Bloch and Clarke were joint winners in a 1919 US composition competition for works for viola and piano – until the judges discovered that Clarke, who had entered under a pseudonym, was a woman, whereupon Bloch was declared the sole winner! The climax of the finale of the Mendelssohn quotes a well-known 16th century chorale setting of Psalm 100.
